The thing kids look forward to the most during the school year is the summer when they don't have to go to school and get to go on their annual summer vacation to Disneyland or the Trent Severn Waterway. Summer breaks means a couple of months of fun, no homework, and sleeping in every morning in their Albuquerque or Toronto condo! What kid doesn't love that?

For some students looking forward to the summer is viewed differently. Instead of looking forward to summer because of not having to go to school they look at it as a chance to make some money by getting a summer job.

Summer jobs are a rite of passage for kids in high school, college and university. Some kids, usually those in high school, get a summer job to make a few extra bucks that they can spend after their shift on DVDs, video games, milkshakes and movie tickets. Summer jobs aren't serious to them and they are only in it for the pay check they get at the end of the week from their printing Toronto or Albuquerque job.

Parents want their kids to get summer jobs so they can learn responsibility. The routine of going to work at the same time everyday and taking orders from those in positions of power installs a sense of responsibility in them that they will learn from and shape them into the early stages of becoming a responsible young adult.

Students in their last year of high school or just starting college or university look at student jobs as a way of paying for their tuition. Going to college or university isn't cheap. Unless your parents are paying for your tuition or you received a scholarship of some sorts you're going to need to find a way to pay for your schooling. Students can become desperate and need money and their only option is to get a summer job. It doesn't matter what the job is either.

Students who need a summer job will take anything that's offered to them, part time or full time. It doesn't matter if a vet in London Ontario or Albuquerque is hiring an assistant or a fast food chain is looking for cashiers, a job is a job to students; most summer jobs aren't luxurious, just a means to an end.

One thing that some students look for in a summer job is a job that allows them to work there again every summer or one that can lead to more work throughout the course of the year. So if there's an opening for a job that sells horse waterers and there's a chance it can lead to more work it might be something to consider as a summer job and beyond.
